Nu Chapter at Shorter University

Chapter History

Chapter History

Phi Mu was first colonized at Shorter in 1911 as the thirteenth chapter of Phi Mu Fraternity. In 1913, Shorter sadly closed their campus to Greek organizations. Phi Mu was absent from "the Hill" until 2003. At this time Shorter was open for extension and Delta Sigma Tau, a local organization, who knew the benefits of being a part of a national organization and the National Panhellenic Conference, was looking to take this step. The sisters of Delta discovered that their founding members, at least one of whom was a descendant of a member of Phi Mu Nu Chapter, had began Delta Sigma Tau in the 1970s on the ideals of Phi Mu, with the intention of someday bringing Phi Mu back to Shorter. With this in mind, the women of Delta Sigma Tau chose to close their local chapter in order to re-colonize as the Nu Chapter of Phi Mu Fraternity, and received their charter in April of 2004. Today, the Nu Chapter still holds the ideals and unique history of Delta Sigma Tau close to our hearts.

The Nu Chapter is now proud to hold its place among over 228 chapters and 175,000 members world-wide. Phi Mu is the largest sorority in Georgia with over 100 active collegiate chapters!
